As always I was watching Martha one morning and she had a show on what else, organization! She used paint can instead of the plastic totes but I needed something to see through or else I would have no idea what ribbon was in what box. It is still the same idea though, and I must say it is an amazing idea! I think I will take this idea even farther and move it to my sons room. It would be perfect to organize all his planes, trains, and automobiles ; ) I hope you find this as useful as I have. Happy crafting!
Items you will need
3/4” X 36” wooden dowel. Got mine from Hobby Lobby for $1.57 each
Shoe box size clear plastic tote. Got mine from Home Depot for .99 cents each.
1 1/2” eye hooks. From Home Depot for $3.75
zip ties
Scotch blue painters tape
Drill with 3/16 drill bit
My husband did all the hard work I just supervised.
First use the blue tape to protect the tote and to use for your measurements.
He marked each hole from bottom to top a 1/4” apart. Using the tape measure for the width.
Drill your holes on both sides of the tote.
Make sure to remove the tape after drilling the holes.
String zip ties through drilled holes.
Place dowel over the zip ties and tighten until secure.
Trim the zip ties.
Each dowel will hold 2 totes. These are ready for hanging!
Measure out where you want each eye hook to be. My rows are spaced 10” apart. These are now ready to fill with ribbon!
I am so excited to have a place for all my ribbon that isn’t in the way! My hubby did such a great job. The cost is low and the space gained it priceless.
